Does it really matter what kind of underwear a guy chooses?

If you want to look good in your underwear, it matters a lot. But underwear also makes a difference in how you look in your clothes. First, because the amount of support affects the line of your slacks. Second, because the sight of you squirming around trying to get your shorts unbunched makes you look way less cool.

What’s the most flattering style?

The boxer brief looks good on most body types. Fit guys can show off in bikini briefs, while thongs and jocks accentuate your physique. But a lot depends on fit and individual style. The style you feel most comfortable in can also be your best look.

What’s the most comfortable style?

Different guys have different ideas of comfort. In general, a supportive pair of briefs or boxer briefs will be the most comfortable under your suit. Boxer trunks don’t offer much support, and sweating and chafing can be issues for some guys, but other guys are more at ease with a less retraining fit. If you want to take up wearing thongs or fashion jocks, you might change into them before an evening out the first few times you wear them, instead of trying to wear them all day at work. Frankly, though, some guys enjoy the extra stimulation. Lots of guys get used to them easily, and find thongs or jocks more comfortable than having a lot of extra fabric bunching around their bodies. What’s the difference among the materials in the different products?

Guy’s Drawers carries underwear in lots of different fibers, and it can be hard to choose among them. The first distinction is between natural and man-made fibers. Natural fibers like bamboo, silk, and cotton have their own special characteristics, but will generally offer a soft and luxurious feel. Synthetic fibers include high performance microfibers as well as tried and true materials like Spandex. These materials usually launder well and can be more economical than natural fibers. Combinations of the two kinds of fibers can give you the best of both worlds.

What’s the best choice for the office?

Some underwear is intended to enhance a man’s assets and show off a little. Some is designed to keep things modest under your suit. A guy might want both in his wardrobe, but we recommend checking the mirror before heading out to work in your new underwear. In general, thicker fabrics and a more compact fit is going to be more discreet than an “enhancer” fit and mesh pouch.

What’s the best choice for sports? I’m not talking football, but sometimes I like to shoot some hoops with friends or stop by the gym after work.

Here’s where a fashion jock comes in handy. Thongs look like they might be as supportive as a jock, but they really just provide light support.

What’s the best choice for men’s underwear under white pants?

If your white pants are at all transparent, you’ll want a pair of briefs that is as close to the color of your as possible, skin for the least show-through. It’s really about the cut more than the color, though, if your white pants are the usual trouser weight. Go with boxer briefs and make sure the legs are long enough to be lower than the tightest part of the pants.

How should I care for underwear bought from Guy’s Drawers?

Most of our gear can be washed by machine, but always check the tag for each pair of underwear to be sure. Some fabrics should be washed by hand or line dried.
